Gallu’s crowned the ‘Taste Trail’ winner!
Gallu’s has been crowned the winning restaurant of the hugely popular ‘Taste Trail’, organised as part of the recent Royal Leamington Spa Food & Drink Festival. The restaurant in Augusta Place, serving a diverse menu of foods from all around the Mediterranean, received the most votes for their food and service. It was the first time the restaurant had participated in the Taste Trail which is now in its fourth year. In second place were Pan Asian Sabai Sabai, also winners of last year’s Taste Trail. Third place was awarded equally to The Clarendon and another newcomer Bombay Tandoori.
The initiative, organised by BID Leamington, enabled people to eat at one of 15 different and diverse restaurants for £1.00. Over 2,000 people ate at restaurants including; Ask, Bombay Tandoori, Café Rouge, Gallu’s, Murphy’s Bar, Pizza Express, Sabai Sabai, Sozzled Sausage, Strada, The Benjamin Satchwell, The Clarendon, The Fox & Vivian, The Newbold, The Shakespeare and Zizzi, which offered them a chance to showcase their venues.
Customers that took part in the Taste Trail rated their experience and were entered into a prize draw to win a meal for two at the highest rated restaurant. The winner of the meal for two at Gallu’s, was Donna Hinkson who runs the charity ‘People Point’ in Coventry and brought 30 people to enjoy Leamington that day. On hearing she had won the prize, Donna said “What a surprise, we are really grateful - the Taste Trail was a great experience and really well organised. The food at Gallu’s was excellent and we are really looking forward to coming to Leamington again”.
Lopez, the owner of Gallu’s stated “We are really pleased to have won, especially as this is the first year we’ve joined the Taste Trail. As a newly opened restaurant, it was a great way to show new customers the quality of the food and service that we offer and we have been very busy since”. Gallu’s has also offered readers a 15% discount on an evening meal (5pm-10pm) until November 30 2011 if they bring this article.
Stephanie Kerr, Executive Director of BID Leamington, stated “It was great to see a new restaurant get such a positive response. Yet again the Taste Trail has been a phenomenal success which is down to the generosity and efforts of the fantastic restaurants involved. Each year we try to build on the success of the Food Festival and the Taste Trail for customers and restaurants so we are looking forward to next year”.
