The spud that fell from space

What’s knobbly, brown, edible, found in soil and closely resembles E.T?  A slightly peculiar potato harvested this week by Riverford Organic at Home Farm, Newby Wiske, North Yorkshire.

While root vegetables come in all shapes and sizes, this super spud is particularly large and very oddly shaped.  More extra terrestrial than white tuber, this potato is making a bid for most outlandish spud in the North.  It seems likely that the abnormally sized vegetable was caused by this year’s unseasonal weather.

Jake Richardson of Riverford Organic said: “At Riverford we’re not generally worried about the size and shape of our veg but I think this is stretching things a bit and we’ve never seen anything like it!”
