Sleep your way to better health

25th October 2011 Print

With increasingly stressful and hectic lifestyles, more and more people are turning to health supplements and medicine to enable to them to enjoy a good night’s sleep. But, according to Donna Sammons of Earth Connexions, tablets may not be the right answer for all.

“For those who dislike tablets but are having trouble sleeping, ensuring you stay ’grounded’ in your everyday life could be the key to sweet dreams and a great night’s sleep,” says Donna. “As a regular part of that, innovative products based on the concept of ‘earthing’, returning your body to its norm by reconnecting with nature, could be the ideal solution.”

New research from the Mental Health Foundation has highlighted the massive impact that lack of sleep has on people and the way they perform and, in a recent Sleep Matters research report, the company highlighted that although many suffer from insomnia, few are reluctant to rely on the help of long-term medication.

Worcestershire-based Earth Connexions offers an alternative to tablet taking by encouraging visitors to its site to look at the large range of products available that use ‘earthing’ as a way of returning body clocks to normal for a good night’s sleep.

Earth Connexions’ innovative Earthing Sheets, which are composed of cotton with silver filaments, offer users a host of benefits, including …Hidden under your bedcovers, these machine washable sheets and provide warmth and comfort while being sensitive enough even for young children.

Mrs Sammons continued: “Over 11 years of research has gone into our Earthing products and, in response to a particular condition known as Cortisol, or stress hormone levels, the Earth Sheet has showcased how sleeping with natural and ‘grounding’ products such as this only serves to improve the quality and depth of sleep, allowing users to wake the next day refreshed. This is further proven by an ESD Journal study about ‘grounding’ the human body to neutralise bio-electrical stress from static electricity and electromagnetic fields, which reported 85 per cent of people questioned felt it had helped them to fall asleep far more quickly.

“I have been in healthcare for 27 years and in that time the research on sleeping patterns has clearly identified that making body and mental contact with nature corrects electrical imbalances. This in itself not only results in a better night’s sleep but as a person’s system returns to normal, it can mean reduced pain and many more benefits besides.”

Other published studies show that ‘earthing’ improves sleep and reduces pain and stiffness while also being said to reduce inflammation, increase energy, lower stress, increase the healing of injuries, improve circulation and offer relief from certain types of headache and migraine.

Earthing Sheet user, Anna Horton, concluded: “I was never a great sleeper and usually woke once or twice a night, every night. However, since I have been using Earthing Sheets for a few months now, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my sleeping habits. I fall asleep much quicker now than before I bought the sheets and I sleep the night through. I’d definitely recommend Earthing Sheets to anyone only dreaming of a good night’s rest.”
