As the country digest the news of the latest energy price increases this autumn, it’s clear that very few homeowners will escape the impact of the double-digit fuel price rises this year. New homes have long claimed benefits over old in terms of energy efficiency, but now national housebuilder Taylor Wimpey claims that buying a new home could actually help purchasers reduce their costs in the long run and make savvy savings in 2012.

According to research, buying new could save you £800 a year in energy bills and 25 per cent in home insurance. Modern homes also have less DIY and maintenance costs and in addition to a range of special offers and incentives, there are some significant savings to be made.

Taylor Wimpey used an independent, qualified assessor to compare the energy efficiency and estimated cost of fuel bills for two properties - a traditional semi-detached house built in the early 1900s, and a brand new Taylor Wimpey home. The results showed a stark difference, with energy costs totalling an estimated £1408 a year in the older property compared to just £525 in the new home. CO2 emissions from the older property were also nearly four times higher than those of the new build home.

Richard Goad, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Bristol comments: “We believe that with the right advice and support, 2012 will be the right time to buy and actually reduce expenditure in the long term. By moving to a brand new Taylor Wimpey home, homeowners can benefit from a range of energy saving features as standard, such as double glazed windows and patio doors throughout, wall insulation and energy efficient heating. We know these features make our modern homes significantly more energy efficient than older properties, leading to dramatically reduced fuel bills.”

Taylor Wimpey’s Blenheim Meadow development in Cheswick, Bristol offers a selection of stylish, two, three and four bedroom homes ideal for those looking to save money by buying a new build property. Prices start from just £139,995 for a two bedroom apartment with three bedroom homes priced from £224,995. First time buyers can also take advantage of the newly-launched FirstBuy scheme which reduces the need for a large deposit.

Blenheim Meadow is less than five miles from Bristol city centre and is close to Bristol Parkway train station. Cheswick is an exciting suburb designed for life in the 21st Century and an excellent location for commuters with both the M4 and M5 motorways in easy reach. Straddling the boundaries of Stoke Gifford, Filton and Locklease, Cheswick is surrounded by thriving businesses and the University of the West of England.
