Golf de Mogador, located on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, is the latest complex to open in the country and it is sure to be a hit with British golfers looking for a unique, cultural experience combined with great golf, excellent value for money (especially when compared with France or Spain) plus guaranteed sunshine.
Morocco is less than three hours away from the UK yet it possesses the feel of a long haul destination and can be reached for a fraction of the cost from airports all over the country.
With two 18-hole Gary-Player-designed courses, Golf de Mogador is located in Diabat, a small, quiet village about 4km from Essaouira. The quality of the complex has already been recognized by Golf World magazine, which ranked the club 15th among the world’s top 20 best new courses last year.
Green Fees cost from 750 Moroccan Dirhams per day (approx. £57) or 3500 Dirhams (£270) for an entire week. Club, buggy and caddy hire is also available.
The perfect place to stay is Rebali, a recently-opened Boutique Hotel comprising 6 individual Riads in the village of Sidi Kaouki, 20 minutes along the coast from Essaouira and 15 minutes from the golf club. The riads provide all the advantages of a hotel combined with the privacy of a villa; ideal for ‘lively’ golfing parties (and the riads have secure spaces to lock up golf clubs on the ground floor level).
Traditional in design, the riads have modern touches such as remote control glass sliding roofs. Although the riads are fully-equipped to the highest specification for self-catering the complex also has its own on-site chefs, who can prepare meals and deliver them to the riads on request (at a supplement) for those who would rather let someone else do the cooking.
There are also swimming pools, a hammam (with bookable treatments – perfect for that post-round massage) and a tennis court.
Accommodation at Rebali is bookable by the room in the larger riads or groups can take over an entire property for themselves.
