One of Cheshire’s finest hotels, the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa – owned and operated by Nelson Hotels – has earned a prestigious AA Rosette in recognition of the outstanding Mediterranean style Ciro’s Brasserie. The hotel also retained its excellent four-star status in a recent hotel inspection by the AA.

Under the long established AA Rosette scheme, an AA Rosette hotel restaurant achieves standards that stand out in their local area. They serve food prepared with care, understanding and skill, using good quality ingredients, and guests can eat in with confidence and a sense of anticipation. Only 10% of restaurants in the UK are worthy of a single AA Rosette, a high accolade indeed.

The awarding of the AA Rosette rounds off a successful year for the Grosvenor Pulford, in which Ciro’s Brasserie secured a place on the shortlist for Cheshire Life Magazine’s Restaurant of the Year (runner-up) and the hotel was crowned Best Wedding Venue in Cheshire at the County Brides Awards. The recent AA Rosette award joins the existing AA dining awards bestowed upon the family owned Nelson Hotel Group, for The Bear’s Paw and The Pheasant Inn.

Following the inspection which involved an overnight stay at the picturesque Grosvenor Pulford Hotel outside Chester, the report glowed with praise for the hotel and its team. The inspector commented: “This was a very positive stay at a well-run, well maintained hotel, providing a high standard of customer care. Hospitality experienced was warm and genuine from all encounters.”

On learning of the current refurbishment programme underway to several bedrooms and function rooms, the inspector added: “Accommodation is well presented and will further benefit from the current refurbishment programme. The inspector claimed the refurbishment: “...promises a greater level of luxury.”

Dinner in the outstanding Ciro’s Brasserie – which prides itself the use of excellent local, seasonal ingredients – consisted of a three-course meal of pressed mosaic game terrine, pan seared fillet of sea bass with scallops, followed by an apple and cinnamon soufflé. The inspector reported: “Dinner showed care in preparation and presentation.” The soufflé was described as “a very well executed dessert” and “a very strong dish”.

The outstanding achievement in the recent inspection is testament to the hard work of the team at the Grosvenor Pulford, many of whom outperform service expectations on a daily basis – a point noted by the inspector and echoed by Executive Head Chef Leigh Myers, who comments: “We are extremely passionate about delivering fantastic food, excellent service, and a first-class dining experience for each and every guest. To have this recognised in the form of an AA Rosette is fantastic. This accolade joins the AA dining awards held by The Bear’s Paw and The Pheasant Inn and further enhances the reputation of Nelson Hotels as a provider of some of the finest food Cheshire has to offer. Thanks go to the entire team who worked so hard to secure this award.”
