A spot of decorating is the perfect antidote to the winter blues but, as it is also the time of year that the purse strings are tightened, how do you achieve a designer look for less?

Yorkshire based interior designer Jeanette Holmes, who has a host of country wide clients including Miller Homes, shares her top tips to ensure your home is right on trend in 2012.

“Grey is definitely the top colour for 2012 and when co-ordinated with strong colours such as yellow a superb striking effect can be achieved,” said Jeanette. “Also popular is textured fabrics, wallpapers, and as a designer I welcome the return of reclaimed furniture which is revamped to inject a whole new lease of life into it.”

Jeanette is also keen to emphasise that a great looking home can be achieved on more modest budgets and by utilising just a few of her innovative ideas, the key trends for 2012 can be replicated with ease.

“One of the key looks for the year is the ‘layered’ look – lots of cushions, throws, and when teamed with oversized accessories a glamorous look can be achieved with ease,” said Jeanette. “Why not utilise a piece of striking wallpaper behind a statement mirror or papered panels behind a large headboard – just let your creative instincts take over and you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.”

Yet if it’s not a makeover you need but a new home, Miller Homes currently has twelve developments throughout the region offering a range of properties from stylish one bedroom apartments to five bedroom luxury family homes.

“Budgets don’t have to be an issue either,” as Jan Hanaby area sales manager for Miller Homes stated. “There is more help than buyers are aware out there, ranging from equity share schemes such as the Government FirstBuy initiative, through to deposit match or even our own MiWay or MiSwap schemes. All are designed, like our homes, to meet the individual needs of our purchasers.”

FirstBuy is a scheme designed to help buyers who earn less than £60,000 per annum and do not currently hold a mortgage.

Prices start from as little as £77,500 and with a range of purchase initiatives available to suit a variety of buyers 2012 could be the year that you have the home of your dreams.
