Taxiwise welcomes updated black cab

Taxiwise welcomes updated black cab The launch of the next generation London taxi, the TX4, has been welcomed by Taxiwise, the national campaign for the safe use of taxis.

The TX4 boasts a number of refinements, including a cleaner, Euro IV regulation-compliant engine, anti-lock brakes and improved driver and passenger comfort.

But despite the changes – and an eye-catching new front grille – the TX4 has retained the distinctive body shape of its predecessors, ensuring the vehicle is instantly recognisable as a taxi so passengers can be sure they are getting into a legitimate Hackney carriage.

“Taxiwise maintains that having a separate, distinctive vehicle model used exclusively as a Hackney carriage cuts the chances of bogus drivers simply using any vehicle to trawl the streets pretending to be a cab and luring in unsuspecting passengers,” said spokeswoman Celeste Clarke.

“People know the classic London taxi. They know it is a safe vehicle to get into and not likely to be driven by an unlicensed driver. For these reasons, it was essential that the updated incarnation of the taxi was faithful to this recognised shape.

“The TX4 does look great and is obviously a more modern version of its predecessors, but it has kept the shape unique to London taxis so cannot be mistaken for anything else.

“Taxiwise believes this model will help keep passengers safer on the streets.”
