Explore leads the way with 96% summit success rate up Kilimanjaro

21st February 2012 Print

Adventure travel specialist, Explore, has announced that it has the highest summit success rate on its Kilimanjaro treks of any major tour operator. Last year alone, an incredible 96% of Explore's customers reached the 5,895 metre summit, achieving what was for many of them, a lifelong ambition.

To help customers acclimatise, Explore's tours to Kilimanjaro have an extra day built into the itinerary. With more time on the mountain, Explore's customers are able to climb at a slower pace than other groups and have longer to adjust to the altitude, significantly increasing their enjoyment and chances of a successful summit. In addition, Explore follows carefully planned routes up the mountain and employs expert support crews who maintain enthusiasm within the group throughout the trek. As if that's not enough, unlike most other operators, Explore includes the Kilimanjaro Park Fees, which cost from US$850, in the price of its tours.

For those who want to give themselves the best chances of reaching the summit, Explore offers a variety of Kilimanjaro treks:

Following the little used Lemosho route, Explore's 12 day Kilimanjaro - Lemosho Trek climbs and descends Mount Kilimanjaro on different paths, allowing customers to experience its different climatic regions and varying plant and animal life. After returning from the summit, customers will transfer to Arusha National Park where they can relax or take part in optional game drives. Graded strenuous to tough, the tour costs from £2,204 per person and includes flights, accommodation, all meals while on the trek, transport and the services of a tour leader, driver and support crew.

Tackling Tanzania's two highest peaks, Explore's 14 day Tanzania Volcano Trek climbs to the top of Mount Meru as well as Mount Kilimanjaro.  Offering customers a unique double challenge, groups hike to Meru's volcanic cone before ascending Kilimanjaro via the Rongai route on the mountains northern flank. Reaching Kilimanjaro's summit on day 11 of the itinerary, customers will be rewarded with astounding views from Uhuru Peak. Graded strenuous to tough, the tour costs from £2,247 and includes flights, accommodation, all meals, transport and the services of a tour leader, driver and support crew.

For those looking to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro but wanting to make the most of Tanzania's wildlife while they're there, Explore's Kilimanjaro & Serengeti Safari offers the best of both worlds. The 16 day tour begins with a trek along the quiet Lemosho route to the summit of Kilimanjaro, and then journeys to Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater in search of the 'big five'. Graded strenuous to tough, the tour costs from £3,298 per person, and includes flights, accommodation, all meals, transport and the services of a tour leader, driver and support crew.

For customers looking to make the most of their time in Africa, the above tours can be extended to include a visit to Zanzibar Island. A four day extension costs from £398 per person. Tailor-made treks and extensions can also be arranged through Explore Tailormade.

Ashley Toft, Managing Director of Explore commented, "We have been operating treks up Kilimanjaro for over 20 years now and are proud to be achieving such high summit success rates. It's really important to us that our customers achieve their goals, and it's for this reason that we give them more time and the help of the best support crew in the industry. After all, it's not every day you get a chance to tackle Mount Kilimanjaro".
