British Airways to resume Saudi flights

British Airways will resume flights to Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia from March 29, 2009. The airline will fly five times each week from Heathrow Terminal 5 to both Jeddah and Riyadh. Flights to Riyadh will operate on a Boeing 777 and Jeddah flights will be on a Boeing 767.

Aer Lingus announces nine new routes for summer 2009

Aer Lingus has announced plans to introduce nine new routes for summer 2009 from Ireland to the UK and Europe. New services, which are on sale from today, include Dublin to Catania in Sicily, Sofia & Newcastle, Cork to Lanzarote, Lisbon & Rennes, and from Belfast to Milan, Munich & Lanzarote. This expansion brings to 12 the number of European routes introduced already in 2008 and supports the airline's growing European operation both to and from Ireland.

Aer Lingus to reduce long-haul fuel surcharges

Aer Lingus is to reduce its long haul fuel surcharges by up to 20% on all tickets booked for flights between Ireland and the US with immediate effect. The fuel surcharge reduction represents a decrease of up to €20/US$40 per sector and comes as a result of the recent decrease in international oil prices.

Air Astana has this month begun flying in the route Almaty – Bishkek, which will be operated 4 times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday by turbo-propeller aircraft Fokker-50 (50 seats).

Air France introduces Seat Plus

Air France customers travelling in economy class on long-haul flights can now reserve seats that offer more legroom thanks to their specific position in the cabin*. These seats may be reserved only when checking in online, from 30 hours before the scheduled flight departure and up to the latest check-in time, on payment of a 50 euro supplement.

airBaltic passenger numbers reach 2 million

For the first time in its history, the Latvian airline airBaltic has carried two million passengers in ten months. Last year airBaltic reached its two millionth passenger in December.

Austrian to cancel flights to Mumbai in 2009

Austrian Airlines is to cease operating its service to the Indian city of Mumbai (Bombay) from 1 March 2009 onwards. As a result of drastic overcapacity between European airports and the city in southwestern India, the weakening Indian economy and the consequences of the crisis in European financial markets, it is no longer possible to operate this route profitably in the medium term.

Austrian reduces fuel surcharge

Due to a relaxation in conditions on fuel markets, the fuel surcharge for Austrian Airlines short- and medium haul scheduled flights, which account for the majority of the Austrian Airlines Group traffic, has been reduced by EUR 3.00 from EUR 27 to EUR 24. The surcharges for long-haul flights remain unchanged at EUR 98.

bmi removes fuel surcharges on European and domestic routes

London Heathrow’s second largest carrier bmi has today removed all fuel surcharges on its flights within UK and Europe. This initiative recognises the current economic situation and the need to provide more affordable and transparent air fares for business and leisure travellers.

bmi to go wide-bodied on Heathrow to Cairo and Amman
