Couple’s new home is more than just a flight of fancy

For aviation enthusiast Colin Druett an apartment at Farnborough Central with views over the airfield is the ideal home.
Colin and wife YuYun Wu recently moved into a brand new apartment at the popular Redrow development on the historic site of the former Royal Aircraft Establishment with the help of FirstBuy.
Colin explained: “We were living in rented accommodation in Yatley but wanted a home of our own. I love aeroplanes and had seen that Redrow were building at Farnborough Central and thought the location was fantastic from an aeroplane perspective. It’s a private airfield and planes don’t fly at unsocial hours so we’re not disturbed.
“When we looked at the show apartment we set our hearts on living at Farnborough Central straight away – we knew we had to live here. We didn’t need to look at anywhere else but decided to wait until Vulcan House was released for sale because of its prime position within the development. We were lucky because FirstBuy meant we could defer paying 20% of the price; without it we wouldn’t have been able to afford our dream home.”
Precision engineer Colin and YuYun, who is a piano teacher, watched with interest as the apartment building rose from the foundations to completion and are extremely delighted with their new home.
“The specification is fantastic with integrated kitchen appliances including fridge freezer, oven, hob and extractor plus washer-dryer all fitted as standard. All we had to bring was our bed, TV, somewhere to sit and our clothes,” Colin added.
“We’ve had excellent service from all who helped us through the home buying process, including the FirstBuy agent Radian, the mortgage specialist who sorted the finance and everyone from the construction team to the sales consultants at Redrow, who have all been superb. The sales consultants were knowledgeable and supportive, which made buying our new home simple and straightforward.”
The combination of the sought-after location and quality specification means that Farnborough Central is a popular choice with homebuyers and almost half of the 44 apartments in the current phase were sold in just three months.
Current availability includes one-bedroom apartments priced from £149,950, with two-bedroom properties on the market from £189,950.
FirstBuy is a special initiative for first time buyers with an annual household income less than £60,000. They can take out an equity loan for 20% of the purchase price, which is jointly funded by Redrow and the Government and interest free for the first five years, thus reducing the amount they need to spend on their first home.
Farnborough Central has also been granted NewBuy status, a Government backed scheme aimed at anyone buying a new home up to the value of £500,000. Purchasers can take out a 95% mortgage with a number of participating lenders, which means those with savings of around £7,500 could find they have enough for a deposit on a brand new apartment.
The development is conveniently situated next to IQ Farnborough, a vibrant business park with offices, a café, crèche, heritage centre and a recently-opened four-star hotel and leisure complex.
With journey times from Farnborough mainline station to London Waterloo of less than 45 minutes, it’s the ideal place for commuters to call home.
