Winter escape to South America

South America is home to some spectacular scenery

Adventure Worldwide has a brand new trip for winter 2012 entitled Secret South America.

It is a genuine adventure on foot and overland through Chile, Argentina and Bolivia using both private and public transport that certainly has the 'wow' factor.

It provides a chance to venture into a rarely visited part of northern Argentina to begin a trek through the Quebrada. Following a formerly major cultural route through the mountains for the Inca Empire in the 15th Century, the landscape is straight out of a 'spaghetti western'.

Giant cactus and ochre-coloured arid mountains and tiny villages dating back to pre-Hispanic times, where everything seemingly moves at one pace, very slowly.

You will then cross by bus into Bolivia and head for the Altiplano and then enjoy walking around various lagoons looking out for Flamingo and Vicuna amongst other Andean wildlife. Next are the salt pans of the Atacama Desert, where you will undertake an interesting trek in the salt mountains before returning to Salta itself and back into Argentina overland.

The trip departs regularly throughout November, December, January and February and costs from £2225 pp (two sharing).

This includes all land transportation, 14 nights’ accommodation, some meals and the services of a tour leader. Flight-inclusive prices are also available on request.
