Walk the Walk, the UK’s largest grant-making breast cancer charity, has just launched an amazing new challenge....The Arctic Marathon, backcountry skiing through the beautiful sub-arctic in Northern Sweden.

The Arctic Marathon is a challenging 26.2 mile adventure, which will take place over two days, on special trails created by the rangers in the Abisko National Park. Participants will experience the extraordinary delights of the Arctic - a trip of a lifetime, AND raising funds for vital breast cancer causes at the same time.

Those joining Walk the Walk will discover the enchanting beauty and unspoilt wilderness of the snow-covered Subarctic. They will experience the romance of travelling by husky sledges and the excitement of going in search of the Northern Lights. From the charm of enjoying the warm hospitality of staying in mountain huts, to the uniqueness of sleeping in The ICEHOTEL – this trip has it all.

The ability to backcountry ski is not important; it is the desire to experience a very different challenge. We suggest anyone taking part commits to learning the basics on dry ski slopes before they go – around three to five lessons should be sufficient.

The total cost of The Arctic Marathon is £3,100, which includes all food, accommodation, flights and equipment. Participants also need to raise a minimum of £600 for Walk the Walk, but if they raise more, they can potentially be refunded the full cost of their trip.

Nina Barough, founder and Chief Executive of Walk the Walk said “Walk the Walk’s new winter challenge The Arctic Marathon is a unique and very exciting adventure. This beautiful wilderness will present a wonderful opportunity to reach a huge personal goal for those taking part, but at the same time raise vital funds that will then be granted to support breast cancer causes, both for research and towards those that have cancer now... a fantastic exchange. It will certainly tempt any fan of outdoor sports and adventure and encourage many Power Walkers to take on a challenge with a difference, this will be an experience of a life time.

The Northern Lights are one of nature’s beauties that many only dream of seeing, plus experiencing the romance of a husky ride through the wilderness of the Arctic, means if you only push yourself to the limit one in your lifetime – make it now”
