So that's how he got that bottom! I'm A Celebity star David Haye reveals a Japanese algae, Sun Chlorella ‘A’ is behind his jungle physique.

Forget the ‘battle of the bikinis’, former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye hit the headlines this week when he took to the jungle shower to show off his sculpted abs, as The Daily Mail exclusively revealed that the secret to his incredible physique was the Japanese wholefood algae supplement, Sun Chlorella.

This season’s I’m A Celebrity male pin-up – David Haye set hearts racing as the paper revealed that, alongside his rigorous training regime, the tiny green super food gave him the edge on his competitors, as well as in the heartthrob stakes. Haye has previously said: “My team work hard at making sure I get the world’s finest fighting fuel, that includes Japanese whole food Sun Chlorella ‘A’. My nutrition is fundamental to getting the most out of all my training and help deliver the knock-out punch.”

But what’s the secret behind the headline grabbing supplement?

Chlorella is a natural whole food composed of 60% pure plant protein and is free from synthetic ingredients to allow for the body to fully maximise its health benefits. Bursting with food state nutrients, one 3gm sachet of Sun Chlorella ‘A’ Granules (the equivalent of 15 Sun Chlorella ‘A’ Tablets) contains the daily recommended intake of essential amino acids, vitamin A, vitamin B12, B6, vitamin D, folic acid, iron and fibre.

And it’s not just a training regime that Sun Chlorella ‘A’ can maximise, there’s a whole world of health benefits behind the Japanese whole food.

Believed to help stimulate the growth of good bacteria (Lactobacilli) to aid digestion as well as cleanse the bowel by clinging on to toxins like mercury, lead or pesticides in the intestines

Chlorella boasts more chlorophyll, by weight, than any other plant known to man. This green pigment is responsible for photosynthesis in plants, but in humans its benefits are believed to range from blocking the absorption of harmful chemicals to improving bad breath!

Has energy-boosting properties with iron content equivalent to nine cups of spinach (270g) and the same B12 content as a 32oz steak

Provides an energy boost prior to physical exercise as well as a repair and anti-inflammatory effect after training (chlorophyll content in chlorella helps to minimise inflammation and muscle stiffness post workout)

Rich in vitamin D, containing over the daily minimum requirement due to being grown in natural sunlight

Enhances the detoxification of the liver and the subsequent removal of alcohol from the body. Professor Fukui of Sapporo Medicinal University reported that even with a fairly large consumption of alcohol, hangovers can be prevented by up to 96% with chlorella

Due to combination of nutrients and amino acid abundance, chlorella is favoured by the likes of Miranda Kerr for its positive effects nails, skin and hair

Where does it come from?

Chlorella is a microscopic freshwater single-cell green algae dating back from approximately 700 million years ago. It has tough outer cell walls and the ability to reproduce itself at an astonishing rate: from four cells on day one to one billion cells on day 15 in cultivation. This special component is called the Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) and in supplementation, encourages the growth as well as repair of cells and tissues in the body. This process is slowed down by aging but chlorella is believed to help re-stimulate growth.

Sun Chlorella ‘A’ Granules are priced at £21.95 for a 20 x 3g sachets box (one month’s supply) and is available from SunChlorella.co.uk.
