Discover Colombia: The best place in the world!

6th December 2012 Print

A ground-breaking new trip to Colombia from Chameleon Worldwide is one of most original and innovative itineraries they have ever developed. The adventure discovers some of South America’s finest scenery, culture and natural resources – in particular, an extraordinary whale-watching extension on Colombia’s Pacific Coast.

For a long time Colombia has been off the tourist map but the country has been embracing tourism over the last few years and its image has leapt forward in leaps and bounds. It is probably South America’s best kept secret, boasting incredibly diverse landscapes; two branches of the Andes, two stunning coastlines (Pacific and Caribbean), as well as vibrant cities like Cartagena and delightful colonial towns like Barichara.

It is home to 53 Natural National Parks, plus rainforests, mountains, rivers, deserts and incredible bio-diversity. But its biggest asset is its people, famous for their friendly hospitality.

Chameleon Worldwide has an 11 or 15-day ‘Adventure Colombia’ trip; the 15-day version includes a stay at the tiny, unspoilt eco-lodge of El Cantil, situated near Nuqui on the edge of Utria National Park on the Pacific Coast. Activities on offer at El Cantil include kayaking, swimming, paddle boarding, jungle walks and some spectacular whale and dolphin-watching (and superb food).

Highlights of the action-packed ‘Adventure Colombia’ itinerary include the colonial capital Bogota – including the famous gold museum – plus activities like mountain-biking, walking, white-water rafting on the Chicamocha River and an abseiling adventure down a waterfall!

It’s not all high adrenaline activity though – there’s a very relaxing stay at a coffee plantation hacienda, a visit to the important archaeological site at El Pueblito in Tayrona National Park, and a tour of the old city of Cartagena.

The trip costs from £2950 pp (based on two sharing) which includes all flights, private transfers and transportation throughout, most meals, 9-nights’ comfortable accommodation at hotels and haciendas, activities as detailed in the itinerary and an English speaking guide. For the Pacific Coast extension to El Cantil on the Pacific Coast add an additional £760 pp.
