A nation of fitness failures and fibbers
While 64% of Brits will start 2013 intending to adopt a new healthy lifestyle, a lack of motivation and unrealistic goals and methods mean many will fail even before the Christmas decorations have come down.
The new research commissioned by Florida grapefruit reveals a quarter (25%) of Brits’ healthy regimes will last only a week, while one in ten (9%) will fail in less than one day. Only a fraction (3%) will manage to maintain their healthy lifestyle for the whole year and 17% will never get started.
A nation of fibbers
With half of Brits (46%) having attempted a diet such as the cabbage soup or vinegar diet in a bid to kick-start a new healthy lifestyle, it’s easy to see why so many fail. What’s more, half (46%) of Brits attempting to get fitter and healthier are willing to lie about sticking to their failed resolution, with popular fibs including:
Claiming to have only eaten a couple of biscuits when, in fact, they’ve eaten half the pack (9%)
Claiming to have eaten something healthy when, in fact, they haven’t (9%)
Claiming to have only eaten a small portion (7%)
Putting them firmly in a lose-lose situation, partners are most commonly lied to (16%) when lifestyle regimes fail, yet a third are also blamed for broken resolutions (28%). Eager to pass the buck, 28% claim their partner puts them off by openly eating delicious food or storing it in a visible place (20%). Friends (16%) and colleagues (7%) are also lied to when it comes to broken resolutions.
Start Your Day the Florida Way
With the cold, dark winter nights upon us, it’s often hard to get motivated to do exercise in the evening or find time to do it during the busy working day; indeed, 29% of Brits say they’d be more likely to stick to a healthy regime if they exercise first thing in the morning. This is why Florida grapefruit – one of the sweetest and juiciest varieties of grapefruit – has created a simple, quick and effective morning routine with the help of celebrity chef Lisa Faulkner and personal trainer to the stars Mark Anthony.
Morning Motivation
Mark Antony, whose clients have included Katie Price, Billie Piper and Cheryl Baker, commented “Research shows that if you don’t exercise in the first hour of your day, you’re less likely to do it at all, so together with Florida grapefruit I’ve created three simple exercises that will take you no more than 10 minutes but will set you up for the day.”
Breakfast Boost
With 35% of the nation saying they never breakfast together as a family and 21% grabbing breakfast on their commute or at their desk, Lisa Faulkner is on a mission to get people eating breakfast properly.
She commented “The research from Florida grapefruit shows that 16% of Brits regularly skip breakfast, with many hitting the snooze button instead. But eating a nutritious breakfast gives you energy and increases your metabolism to help you burn more calories. I recommend having a few really simple breakfast recipes using Florida grapefruit that you can whip up quickly so the whole family can start their day in the best possible way.”
