Braving the winter chill could make you a savvy mover

While spring is traditionally seen as a peak time for moving house – savvy sellers and buyers are realising the potential benefits of taking action during the winter months.

For those brave enough to challenge the cold and chilly weather, there may be great deals to be had – but also some potential pitfalls to be aware of.

Many people wait until the New Year and the children settling back into school before making life-changing decisions, like moving house.

While there are positives for those staying ahead of the spring and summer game, when it comes to buying and selling Harrison Murray estate agents have some key points to take on board.

Managing director Nick Salmon said: “Remember, when arranging viewings, that daylight is limited so you will need to visit earlier during the day or at the weekend in order to properly view a house.

“There are usually fewer buyers around in the depths of winter which means less competition if you are prepared to get out and about in search of the perfect home. How many times did you fall in love with a property during the summer months only to have it snatched away by another buyer?

He added: “The winter market can often bring a greater sense of commitment from both sellers and buyers to complete the sale, as people tend to make life changing decisions in the New Year. Remember, although winter conditions can be bleak, if you brave the chill there are great deals to be found.”
