Morris launches new scheme for ‘second steppers’

Local housebuilder Morris Homes has launched a new scheme for people who are selling their home for the first time.

According to figures from Lloyds TSB, the majority (61%) of people trying to sell their first home are waiting more than a year for a buyer. These so called ‘Second Steppers’ can’t move up the property ladder and buy a new house until they’ve sold their existing property.

Morris’ new 105% part exchange scheme solves this problem as it provides a guaranteed buyer and helps sellers avoid unreliable property chains. It is available at developments across the housebuilder's portfolio, including Edgewood and Thorpe Green, both in Peterborough.

Under the initiative, the company will purchase a homeowners’ property for its full market value, plus an additional 5%, if they buy a new Morris home.

Cindy Cade, regional sales director at Morris, said: “We know that finding a buyer can be one of the most daunting aspects of the moving process. One in five first homeowners even believe it is harder to move up the ladder than it is to get on it in the first place.

“By taking advantage of our part exchange scheme, househunters can make their move within a matter of weeks and use the extra 5% to cover moving costs or other expenses.”

Morris has a selection of four-bedroom detached homes available at Edgewood, which is just five miles from the A1 and an hour away from London by train, and at Thorpe Green, which is situated close to local amenities in Peterborough City Centre.
