A surprising half of Brits (50%) admit to being in a ‘recipe rut’, cooking the same recipes over and over again with a quarter (25%) admitting they rarely try out new dishes, a survey out by posh ready meal brand Charlie Bigham's revealed.

The research, which was commissioned by Charlie Bigham's to investigate couples’ cooking habits across the UK, went on to reveal that the most popular dish to cook was the traditional British roast dinner (41.3%). Hot on the heels of the roast dinner was a hearty pasta bake, the much loved spag bol, a warming curry and a quick and easy stir fry. Furthermore, nearly half (46%) cook less than 10 different dishes each month – meaning that Brits cook and eat the same dish at least three times in any given month.

The survey revealed that Brits certainly aren’t a nation of Masterchefs with a third (36%) feeling that their cooking skills just weren’t up to scratch and one in ten (15%) not knowing which new ingredients to try out - let alone where to buy them.  Two in five (39%) of those who owned up to their lack of culinary experimentation claimed that it was due to it being ‘too time consuming’ to try out new recipes in the evening, especially after a long day at work. And one in ten cited lack of confidence as an issue, stating that they didn’t feel a good enough cook to be trying out new dishes. Interestingly, one in six (16%) of those surveyed claimed to being put off trying something out of the norm because their partner is a fussy eater!

Charlie Bigham, founder of the brand, comments: “While the results reveal that Brits lack culinary creativity, at Charlie Bigham’s we understand that people don’t always have time or inspiration to be testing and trying out new recipes in the evening, especially after a long day at work. Each of our dishes are handmade using fresh ingredients and, with no need to rack your brains for new recipes, our meals take the hassle out of the evening meal so you can spend more time enjoying dinner with your partner.”
