Enjoy tea at the Portmeirion Hotel

Contrary to popular belief it’s not England that is the best place in the UK to enjoy afternoon tea but Wales and many properties that are members (by invitation only) of the exclusive Welsh Rarebits collection of hotels have mouth-watering offerings, for example:

Portmeirion Village, near Porthmadog

The famous Portmeirion Hotel – the filming location for the cult 60s TV series The Prisoner – offers a special spring Afternoon Tea Beak with accommodation. The break costs from £155 for two people per night including a 3-course dinner, en suite accommodation, full Welsh breakfast & a traditional afternoon tea to welcome guests on arrival. The £155 rate is available from Sunday through to Thursdays. The Afternoon Tea Break is available from now until 30th April excluding Easter fortnight.

The Falcondale Hotel, Lampeter

The historic, 19-room Falcondale Hotel, serves tea in the heated conservatory or on the terrace which overlooks the Teifi valley towards Lampeter. Scrumptious homemade cakes with a pot of Earl Grey are also ideal whether rain or shine. High tea includes a selection of homemade cakes, pastries and biscuits and a choice of one sandwich filling. It costs from £18.50 per person. All cakes and biscuits are made by the chefs at The Falcondale. Double rooms (B&B) from £150.

The Great House, Porthcawl

The Great House is widely regarded as one of Wales’s finest hotels and restaurant. A Grade II listed building dating back to the 1550s. In addition to a traditional afternoon tea, The Great House offers a chocoholics heaven tea! It includes hot chocolate, Artisan tea or coffee, homemade chocolate scones with clotted cream, chef’s selection of deeply decadent crunchy macaroons and hand- made light, dark and white chocolate desserts - £12.95 per person. Include a glass of Jean Moutardier carte d’or champagne £18.95 per person. Rooms from £125 (B&B)

St. Brides Spa Hotel

The St. Brides Spa Hotel, a stunning setting on a headland above Saundersfoot Harbour and Carmarthen Bay, offers a full afternoon tea for £17.50 per person which includes a selection of Finger Sandwiches, freshly baked Fruit & Plain Scones with Clotted Cream & Strawberry Preserve and an assortment of Cakes & Pastries. Champagne afternoon tea costs £29.00. Room rates start from £75 per person per night to include breakfast plus use of the spa and fitness suite.
