More Brits than ever choosing to cruise for their holiday

With a reluctant summer dragging its heels, it’s no wonder that Brits are looking to sunnier shores. And with figures released in the build up to the holiday season, it seems UK holiday makers are choosing the high seas, with more British passengers than ever opting for a cruise holiday in 2012. In fact, cruising holidays accounted for 1 in 8 of every package holiday bought last year, revealing a significant trend.

One in five people who took a cruise were under-45 years old, while 36% of the passengers who travelled were first time cruisers, dispelling the myth that cruises are exclusively for the older generation. So despite the tough economy, the industry appears to be one in growth.

With travel experts predicting 2013 to be just as buoyant as last year, Brits look set to continue to set sail for their holidays. But what is it that is so appealing about taking to the seas?

Giulio Libuttii from MSC cruises says, “You don’t need to spend a lot to go on a cruise; it’s affordable for any type of customer. It’s got something to offer for everyone.

The modern cruise ship is a destination in itself – because you can spend a lot of time on board enjoying a real wealth of facilities, whilst travelling and seeing the world.”
