Walk the Walk, the UK’s largest grant-making breast cancer charity, is gearing up for its iconic flagship event, The MoonWalk London, at Battersea Power Station on Saturday 11th May. 17,000 women and men will be “Flying to the Moon” at Midnight, as they Power Walk through the streets of the capital, raising money and awareness for breast cancer.

The MoonWalk London is now in its 16th year, with the 2012 event alone raising almost £6 million. Walkers wearing the charity’s trademark brightly decorated bras take on either a Full Moon (26.2 mile) or Half Moon (13.1 mile) Power Walking challenge.

The theme for this year’s event is “Fly me to the Moon” – think of anything to do with outer space, science fiction, and the extra terrestrial. Walk the Walk is expecting thousands of extraordinary bras, emblazoned with anything from Aliens to Astronauts, Star Wars to Star Trek, or Men in Black to ET!

The night is set to be fun-packed and fabulous, with award-winning comic Suzy Bennett hosting the huge pre-event party in Walk the Walk’s gigantic Pink Palace. Entertaining the walkers as they prepare to set out on their amazing challenges will be acts including Rock Choir, Britain’s largest pop choir.

Celebrity walkers include actress and Walk the Walk ambassador Harriet Thorpe, as well as the Jen’s Big Tits team, including actress and comedian Jennifer Saunders and broadcaster Professor Tanya Byron. Actress Emma Kennedy is leading a team for the fourth consecutive year, and her recruits, amongst others, are TV presenters Penny Smith, Susanna Reid and Janet Ellis, as well as singer Alison Moyet.

All the walker places are now full, but it’s not too late to volunteer. The event couldn’t take place without the army of wonderful volunteers, who donate a night’s sleep to take on a variety of activities, including marshalling, running water stations, organising baggage tents, and handing out medals at the finish line!

Funds raised at The MoonWalk London are granted to support research into breast cancer, and to organisations which provide emotional and physical support for those living with cancer now.

Walk the Walk is passionate about encouraging women and men to become healthier through Power Walking and taking responsibility for their own well-being. The charity has raised over £83 million for vital breast cancer causes, since it was launched 17 years ago.
