Mitsubishi sponsors safer streets project in Gloucestershire Gloucestershire Constabulary has been given new tools to continue their drive in creating safer communities across the county.

Three brand new Mitsubishis have been given to the Constabulary by Mitsubishi's Head Office based in Cirencester, all of which have been designed and equipped especially for the use of Safer Community Teams (SCTs). The Mitsubishi Colt superminis will initially be used by SCTs in Tewkesbury, the North Cotswolds and Forest North but will be moved to other divisions after a period of around 6 months.

The highly visible Colts will be used in a variety of community policing roles to promote safety and social responsibility, making the county a pleasant and enjoyable place to live.

Inspector Paul Morrissey, who is in charge of Neighbourhood Policing for the county, said, “We have been working in partnership with Mitsubishi for some time and are incredibly grateful to them for giving us these three cars, and modifying them to our specific needs.

“These vehicles are an essential part of our armoury and will be used by Safer Community Teams, especially in the more rural areas, to better patrol their neighbourhoods. It is essential to have the ability to reach every part of our communities and engage with the public we serve and this will only go further in allowing us to do that.”

The cars, which have been fully funded by Mitsubishi, are also among the greenest in the fleet with very low carbon emissions and low fuel consumption.

Jim Tyrrell, Mitsubishi's Managing Director said, “I take great personal pleasure in being able to support our local Constabulary in this very practical way. We have a long association with the Gloucestershire Force, with my own father being a police officer himself for many years. It is a pleasure to be able to support this exciting venture in partnership with the SCTs to help make the County a safer and more enjoyable place to live."
