The owners have spent four years overseeing a careful renovation of a 19th Century stone house and have created a stylish and elegant retreat with total privacy. The four-bedroomed property sleeps eight people and a week’s rental in July costs from £350 per person when fully-occupied.
6: Three-bedroomed Lilac Villa looks down a hillside of silver olive trees, over the waterfront houses of Gaios port to the forested offshore island of St Nicholas and across the sea to the Greek mainland. The waterfront tavernas and shops of Gaios are just a 10 minute walk away yet the property retains a feeling of detached seclusion. A week’s stay in July costs £390 per person when fully occupied.
4: The island of Meganissi is one of Greece’s best kept secrets and now is a good time to see it as the Rothschilds have bought a large slice for development. Villa Spartia is a two-bedroomed villa set on a hillside terrace above two beaches on the south-east coast of the island, which is untouched and a wilderness of olive groves. The property has wide terraces surrounding its private pool, with dramatic views out over the beach and across the sea to the island of Kalamos and the mountains of the Greek mainland. A week’s stay in July costs £578 per person when fully-occupied.
2: Villa Arenia is a smaller, sister property to Villa Spartia on Meganissi and located on a separate hillside around 100m away. The one-bedroomed property has a private swimming pool and is ideal for a couple looking for a romantic escape. A week’s stay in July costs £842 pp.
