Tassimo Joy Coffee Machine Review

2nd October 2013 Print

In the world of coffee machines that have been designed for home use, Tassimo tends to deliver promising products. Their machines have always been popular with coffee lovers because of their simplicity, style, the variety of hot beverages they can be used to produce as well as the fact that the Tassimo coffee pods are widely available everywhere.

Using Innovative Flow Heater Technology to power itself, the Tassimo Joy comes equipped with 1.4L water capacity and 5 LED user interface. But does the machine hold its own against other coffee machines of its generation?

Swift cleaning

A common pet peeve among coffee machine users is the fact that they are universally hard to clean. The Tassimo Joy, however, bucks the trend with its automatic cleaning and de-scaling system that does all the work for you. As far as the manual cleaning goes, emptying accumulated spills from the cup shelf and rinsing out the plastic water tank is as far as it goes!

As long as you’re careful and make an effort not to spill coffee a lot, you probably won’t have a lot of manual cleaning to do at all.

How does it work?

The machine is very easy to unpack and set up: it’ll take you a maximum of five minutes. The machine takes T-discs, which are individual drink-making pods that slot into the top. The T-discs then instruct the machine how to brew each individual drink after the machine has scanned a barcode printed on the T-disc.

You then have to stick your cup under the nozzle and press a button. A few seconds later, you’ll have your hot drink delivered as promised. The used T-disc is then extracted and discarded, with no soggy filter papers or messy coffee grounds to take care of. Incredibly, the process is as easy as making a cup of instant coffee and faster than submerging a tea bag in a mug.

The range is ridiculously diverse

The Tassimo Joy accepts a diverse range of T-discs; you can even get creative in how you mix them up. For instance, you can brew a cappuccino by combining a milk T-disc with a coffee T-disc.

If you share your home with people who don’t drink coffee, they can get in on the fun too. The machine brews tea and hot chocolate too and manages to pull this off without a cross-contamination in flavour at all. There’s even the option of adding more hot water at the end of the process, if you don’t want your drink to be too strong.

The Tassimo Joy definitely outshines its peers by offering fast, uncomplicated brewing with compatibility for several different kinds of drinks. It’s ideal for those who want a quick cup of coffee before work, without having to worry about cleaning up afterwards. It’s definitely the machine you should go for if you want one that can handle different types of beverages, too.
