BCA wins motor industry award
BCA’s new online Auction View search engine has won a leading industry honour, securing a 2014 Techies Award from BusinessCar magazine. The awards showcase companies using technology in innovative ways to deliver benefits for customers.
BCA won the Remarketing category for Auction View, the third win in four years for BCA in this category. The BusinessCar judges praised its simplicity and ability to speed up the search process for buyers, bringing buyers and sellers together in the digital space.
Auction View features a consumer-styled user interface with mileage sliders, date calendars and a dynamic make/model selector, with instant updating of results as customers search.
BCA worked closely with buyers on design and functionality and each updated version features a feedback button, meaning Auction View is designed with customers, rather than with customers in mind.
Potential buyers can search through the huge range of vehicles on offer at BCA more efficiently than ever, choosing the right vehicle for their needs from the 13,000 or more typically on offer. The enhancements have made significant strides to streamline and enhance the search function, removing clicks and reducing the time to display results, which now load in under one second – with a typical search process now four-times faster than previously.
Development of the new Auction View started in January 2014 using an advanced search technology called Solr and went live on the BCA site in July of this year. The search function utilises free text search capabilities as used by Google and draws on best practice and design as demonstrated by such companies as eBay, BBC and John Lewis.
BusinessCar Editor Paul Barker commented “As time management becomes an ever greater issue, the steps BCA has taken to massively enhance the speed of its stock search facility is a welcome development and worthy of a BusinessCar Techie award. Innovations and investment like this are to the benefit of the whole industry, and illustrate the pace of change in the sector.”
BCA’s Head of Digital, Tom Bird, commented “The new Auction View makes it quicker and easier for our customers to find the vehicles they need, while the ongoing development programme will introduce an even wider range of search criteria, including number of keys, V5 log book and trim.”
