Home-buyers wanting a beautiful new country home for Christmas still have time to secure a tantalising deal at Redcliffe Homes’ exclusive new Arts & Crafts development in the village of Ashbury - midway between Swindon and Wantage - provided they reserve their home by October 10.

Just 10 four- and five-bedroom properties are being built at Walnut Trees Hill, in a rural corner of south-west Oxfordshire, each set in its own substantial grounds and occupying a scenic position. Every new home here has views either north over the Vale of the White Horse or south over the Berkshire Downs, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Three homes have been sold with residents starting to move in this month and the remaining seven are set for completion over the next few months.

For those wishing to be in their new home by Christmas an autumn deal has been launched on The Coughton at plot 16. It offers a free kitchen upgrade, including silestone worktops, integral double oven, microwave and coffee machine, inspired by the kitchen in the showhome.

There is also a special offer on plots 12 and 14 – The Lydiard and The Rodmarton – where buyers will benefit from free flooring throughout and a fully turfed rear garden, as well as a contribution of £4,000 from the house-builder to towards fitted wardrobes or the payment of stamp duty.

Occupying a secluded corner plot, with a south-facing private garden overlooking open countryside, The Coughton has been designed in a traditional “L” shape. Plot 16 is one of the largest homes providing 2,726 square feet of space. This four-bedroom home (£750,000) has an imposing entrance hall with open landing, while a separate dining room/study with double doors provides a number of added possibilities from home-working or cinema-room to additional family space.

Meanwhile Plot 12, The Lydiard offers 1,975 sq. ft. of living space with its large kitchen/breakfast hub opening on to a bright and airy family room, has a separate day room off the central hallway - which could be used as a formal dining room, study, office or, again, a home cinema - as well as a generous dual-aspect sitting room. This home has five bedrooms and is selling for £659,950.

The last of the trio, The Rodmarton (plot 14), features an impressive central hallway which creates a roomy ambience for the whole house. Another much-commented-on feature of this four-bedroom home is the way its generous kitchen opens directly on to a stylish sun room, which floods the whole area with natural light, no matter the time of year, creating a very relaxing living environment. The price tag of £749,950 reflects the generous 2,435 sq. ft. of living accommodation.

Lorraine Kendrick, Redcliffe’s sales and marketing manager said: “There has been tremendous interest in these new homes, because Ashbury is a lovely village with a very good primary school in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

“We believe we have come up with designs that are worthy of such a beautiful location and we are to landscape the public open space and to build a community shop to enhance village life.”

The scheme was designed by BBA architects of Bath in the style of the Arts & Crafts movement. One of the UK’s most enduringly popular styles of housebuilding, Arts & Crafts architecture is characterised by traditional craftsmanship using simple forms, local building materials and classic, understated decorative motifs.

Each of the new homes at Walnut Trees Hill has a distinct character of its own, tailored to suit different purchasers’ needs. The self-employed or home-worker can choose a design with a home office, while those aspiring to something different may opt for a home with a sun lounge or orangery leading directly off the kitchen and into the garden. All feature under-floor heating for the ultimate winter luxury.

Ashbury offers the perfect location to enjoy stunning views and rural living in south-west Oxfordshire, yet is only four miles from the outskirts of Swindon, and convenient for access to Faringdon and the M4.
