Abode, the residential development in Cambridge, has been named winner of a 2015 Civic Trust Award. Abode forms part of Great Kneighton to the south of Cambridge city centre, where housebuilder Countryside is creating an exciting new community.

The award will be presented at the 56th Annual Civic Trust Awards ceremony, hosted by TV presenter, architect and CTA Patron, George Clarke on Friday 6th March at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. The Civic Trust Awards are the longest standing architecture and built environment awards scheme in Europe. Established in 1959, they recognise the very best in architecture, urban design, planning, landscape, public realm and public art.

Abode was judged against a rigorous set of criteria addressing design excellence, inclusivity for users and positive community impact. The scheme, designed in conjunction with architects Proctor and Matthews, earned the award for its high quality public open spaces and landscaping, the craftsmanship and detailing of the design and the wide range of differently sized homes available.

Tony Travers, Managing Director of the New Homes & Communities Central division at Countryside said: “It is great news that Abode has been recognised with a Civic Trust award which follows a run of other well deserved awards for the scheme in recent months. Abode is an exemplar of the type of high quality, community-led place making that we pride ourselves on at Countryside. With many of the homes now occupied, it is great to see this vibrant and sustainable new neighbourhood fully coming to life. It is also testament to the quality of the scheme that very few other large housing developments have been recognised in these awards.”

Abode includes a wide variety of stylish properties from studio apartments through to six bedroom barn style houses designed to suit a wide range of residents and lifestyles. All properties feature innovative, contemporary architecture and a high quality interior specification. Spread across three distinct zones and surrounded by extensive landscaping that helps the buildings relate to the surrounding countryside, Abode takes some of its design cues from traditional Cambridge architecture reworked for 21st century living and incorporating the best in sustainable design.

Abode is one of three current developments at Great Kneighton where Countryside is creating over 2,250 new homes as well as a wide range of amenities and community facilities. Residents can make the most of the new 120-acre country park that Countryside is creating, as well as new schools, a health centre, shops, library and transport hub. Residents will be able to enjoy superb outdoor facilities including allotments, ponds, playing fields for the new secondary school and adventure play areas. Located approximately three miles from the city centre, Abode is in easy reach of central Cambridge, Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

A selection of properties are currently available at Abode with prices starting at £500,000 for a three-bedroom house. The next phase of new homes at Abode is due to launch soon, providing a mix of high specification apartments and houses. For further information, visit abodecambridge.co.uk.
