PeerTV to add speech recognition to market leading OTT STB technology

16th January 2015 Print

PeerTV, the TV over the internet (OTT) technology solutions provider, announced today that it has signed an agreement with Speech Modules Holdings Limited to develop and market advanced remote control units using automatic speech recognition in home entertainment systems, including TV, audio and gaming units.

SML was established in 2007 to develop a real-time, independent ‘automatic speech recognition’ engine for spontaneous conversation using broad based vocabularies, multi lingual platforms and capable of understanding any language with an accent or dialect. SML's advanced innovative ASR technology powers a generic speech recognition engine that has achieved accuracy in speech recognition of over 95%.

The new product will give PeerTV system users the ability to select channels, search for their favorite programs and generally control their home entertainment systems, all via speech control. The first version of the product will include advanced English language voice commands and search capabilities.

Commenting on the new deal, PeerTV CEO Avi Vermus said, “We are thrilled to be partnering with SML at this important stage in our development. Adding the SMP speech recognition facility to our market leading H265 OTT set top box gives us yet another unique advantage in the market to add to our successful high efficiency video coding (HEVC) technology. Our Android based set top box has proved itself popular with both end users and TV service content providers who are now successfully monetizing the TV viewing habits of expatriate communities around the world by using the internet to reach an audience known to be hungry for on demand ethnic TV content.”
