Pension changes set to fuel buy-to-let market
Leading housebuilder Barratt Homes is predicting a rise in buy-to-let investors now that pension changes give individuals far greater control than ever before over their retirement funds.
Barratt Homes managing director Russell Glimstead said they have already seen an increase in enquiries from potential buyers looking to invest in property and the five star housebuilder has now produced a step by step guide geared to helping first time investors through the process.
As part of the changes people are now allowed to access their defined contribution (DC) pensions as they wish from the point of retirement and not have to arrange an annuity.
And it is this change which Russell says will boost the property market. “We have already been seeing investors opting for property rather than savings accounts but this will rise again now that newly retired people can invest in a wide range of products and for many this will be bricks and mortar.’’
Barratt’s new guide takes investors through the whole process from talking about yields and returns through to local market information and a step by step guide to investing with the five star housebuilder.
