VMAX - The legend continues

1st September 2009 Print
Yamaha VMAX In 1985, the original VMAX captured the era’s taste for big engines and muscular styling and it became an instant legend. For 2009, Yamaha launched the new VMAX: they put a bigger engine in a more compact chassis to give extreme acceleration and easy handling and then gave the whole plot a whole bucket load of aggressive beauty. It was a great success and the new motorcycle was loved by the “original” VMAX fan as well as newcomers to the Yamaha brand.

VMAX: the legend continues in 2010
Following the success of the new bike over the last 12 months, the 2010 VMAX will soon be available exclusively through the dedicated website: new-vmax.com. Buyers will be able to place their orders from 1st September 2009 with the first units being delivered in November 2009.

Power. Adrenaline. Acceleration
The VMAX is famous for its incredible acceleration, provided by the 1,679cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke V4 engine. The visually intimidating powerplant delivers 147.2 kW (200 PS) at 9,000 rpm and a huge torque output of 166.8 Nm (17.0 kg-m) at 6,500 rpm.

The Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) assesses the engine’s running conditions every millisecond, so the system responds instantly to the rider. The Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake (YCC-I) delivers strong performance right through the rpm range.

For the rider, this means unimaginable levels of power and instant pick-up at all engine speeds, making the VMAX a top performer on the drag strip and the open road. The VMAX is a dramatic machine. Its black, low-profile aluminium frame spars arc forcefully across the top, while the giant tubes on the front forks are like nothing else seen on any other bike. Its unique character is further emphasised by four massive, aggressively-styled, hand-finished aluminium air intakes. The front and rear suspension come with the full adjustability more common on Supersport models and offer outstanding road holding.

How do you get one?
The VMAX will only be available through an exclusive online reservation system which operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers log on to the VMAX website, choosing to reserve a new VMAX at his/her preferred dealer. All the information can be found on new-VMAX.com.

* Top speed disclaimer: The VMAX has a governed top speed of 220km/h, by a smart system that still allows a complete quarter-mile run under full acceleration
