As house prices soar, homes with an annexe or self-contained guest space are becoming increasingly popular as buyers look for more space to accommodate their elderly family members or the ‘boomerang generation’ returning home to live with their parents. According to the Valuation Office Agency the number of properties built with these extra spaces rose to 9,330 in the last two years – an increase of 39 per cent. Ashbrook House, situated in the picturesque Chiltern village of Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire, was designed with this multi-generational living in mind, saving home buyers the hassle of having to develop this space themselves.

Ashbrook House is part of Countryside’s collection of 10 four to six bedroom homes and 16 one and two bedroom apartments at Harvard Grange. The homes, which have been designed to reflect the Arts and Craft movement - one of the nation’s most coveted architectural styles - offer first-class specification and the latest trends in contemporary family living. Every detail of multi-generational living has been thought about from the informal snug, cosy den and private top floor bedroom suite. This occupies the whole of the top floor and has its own dressing area and en-suite – perfect as an annexe or self-contained guest space.

Andrew Loveday, Sales Director at Countryside, comments: “There is a demand for annexes as more families find themselves living under the same roof. Each property at Harvard Grange has been designed in such a way that makes it ideal for multi-generational households to have private and communal space with a real focus on the open-plan kitchen and dining area creating a hub for family life. Ashbrook House was one of the first homes to be built on the site and is in an ideal location for commuters and their large families. The homes are proving popular so we would urge families to come and view them before they sell out.”

Offering 2,837 sq ft of versatile accommodation arranged over three floors, Ashbrook House includes a home office and spectacular open plan kitchen and family area on the ground floor, with double doors opening straight onto a large rear garden. A more formal, sophisticated living room with a separate dining area can be found next door that is perfect for dinner parties.

The first floor comprises the luxurious master bedroom with its separate dressing area and en suite, two further bedrooms, a family bathroom and a den - ideal for guests or for teenagers looking for their own space. Alternatively, this flexible space could also be used as a fifth bedroom, hobby or cinema room. While the top floor offers a private suite with en-suite.

Nestled in The Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Little Chalfont with its Post Office, village pub, and independent shops including a delicatessen and craft beer shop, as well as several restaurants, makes the leap from city to village life easy. However, for a true taste of village life, Little Chalfont also has its own community library and a monthly farmers market. Surrounded by rolling Chiltern countryside and a number of woodland areas, Harvard Grange is also close to the upmarket towns of Amersham, Marlow and Maidenhead. The area boasts a selection of leading private and state primary and secondary schools.

Chalfont & Latimer station on the Metropolitan underground line is a few minutes’ walk away from the development and it is also served by Chiltern Railways with services into Baker St and Marylebone within 35 minutes. Harvard Grange is two and a half miles from the M25, eight miles from the M40 and 18 miles from Heathrow Airport, making connections easy.

Ashbrook House is priced at £1,845,000. Other homes at the development range in price from £745,000 to £1,995,000. For further sales information, visit countryside-properties.com.
