Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade scoops yet more awards
Honda’s all-conquering CBR1000RR Fireblade has won the Motor Cycle News award for Best Sportsbike over 601cc.At a star-studded Motor Cycle News Awards ceremony last night, Honda was presented with the award, which recognises the Fireblade as the machine of the year in the fiercely fought litre supersports class. There to pick up the award from comedian Alan Davies and MCN editor Marc Potter was Steve Martindale, General Manager of Honda (UK) Motorcycles.
Trevor Franklin, MCN’s chief road tester said, “Honda's Fireblade has always meant performance and fun in a sorted package, but with the 2008 model Honda has increased these attributes ten-fold. It doesn't matter what road, what the weather or time of day, the ‘Blade always puts a smile on my face and constant stream of adrenaline in my blood. It's the perfect combination of faultless engine performance and a lightweight chassis derived from the race track. No matter which part of the bike you scrutinise, it works. The latest ‘Blade's appeal is the faultless reliability, maneuverability and the onboard feeling of total comfort and safety.”
The MCN award is not all, as popular gadget and motoring publication, Boys Toys Magazine, will also be awarding the CBR1000RR their title of ‘Motorcycle of the Year’ which caps a fantastic 2008 for the new Fireblade. Earlier this year the machine received the accolades of MCN’s ‘Best Litre Sports Bike 2008’, Fast Bikes’ ‘Sports Bike of the Year’ and recently won the same magazine’s overall award for ‘Bike of the Year’.
But it’s not just journalists that rate the latest Fireblade. The 2008 machine came out on top in RiDE Magazine’s RiDER Power survey last month, and a near-to-stock version of the machine also won the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship in the hands of Steve Brogan, while in Superbike trim the HM Plant Honda CBR1000RR won seven races, took 23 podium positions and came second and third in the British Superbike championship. Abroad the machine has also won World Superbike races, with Ryuichi Kiyonari and Carlos Checa who also claimed victory racing as team mates in the prestigious Suzuka Eight-Hour race.
Honda’s astounding CBR1000RR Fireblade has been a winner in the showrooms and on the track since it first appeared back in 1992 in CBR900RR form. Over the last 16 years the machine has been constantly developed and further refined to give discerning sportsbike riders the ultimate race-replica for the road. Next year’s CBR1000RR – unveiled for the first time at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show at Birmingham’s NEC – will also come with an optional electronic Combined ABS system, making it the first ever supersport machine to feature such technology. This advanced technology serves to make riding safer, while keeping the Fireblade’s performance edge sharp.
