Production of Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner tops 3 million

27th September 2007 Print
Citroen Berlingo PSA Peugeot Citroen has now produced more than three million Citroen Berlingos and Peugeot Partners since the two models were launched in July 1996.

Marketed in more than 100 countries in panel van and passenger car versions, these vehicles have enjoyed continued success since their introduction and have played an important role in making PSA Peugeot Citroen the leader in the European light commercial vehicle sector.

These types of vehicles are manufactured at the Group’s plants in Vigo (Spain), Mangualde (Portugal) and Buenos Aires (Argentina) and are also assembled in Turkey and Morocco.

With the Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner, the Group created the light commercial and leisure activity vehicle segment in which it is now the European leader, holding more than a 46% market share.

The two models are unique in that their sales have increased steadily since their roll out, despite heightened competition in the small van segment. Nearly 350,000 units were sold in 2006, and sales for the first six months of 2007 were up more than 2.5%, 11 years after the initial launch. Since 1997, the Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner have been the best selling small panel vans in Europe, with a combined segment share of 29.3% in 2006.

Innovative when first introduced, the two models are still the benchmarks for comfort, compactness and load capacity and have set new standards for small light commercial vehicles used professionally.

As part of the CAP 2010 program introduced in the middle of the year, PSA Peugeot Citroen has set an objective of strengthening its leadership in the European market for light commercial vehicles. The Group held an 18.8% share of the market in 2006, and worldwide sales of Peugeot and Citroen light commercial vehicles rose by 7.7% in the first six months of 2007.
