Scania wins its largest ever UK order from Eddie Stobart

24th January 2007 Print
The lowest whole-life costs backed by the highest levels of aftersales service have led to transport, storage and logistics specialist Eddie Stobart Limited selecting Scania as its preferred fleet truck for 2007. Consequently, in excess of 500 vehicles have now been specified with deliveries beginning in March at a rate of approximately 42 per month.

The order comprises a mix of R 420 models, mainly Scania Highline-cabbed 6x2/4 twin-steers but also including 4x2 and 6x2 tractor units. All will be powered by Scania's 420 hp Euro 4 engine with Scania EGR.

"We are naturally delighted in this endorsement of our brand," says Scania (Great Britain) Limited's Managing Director, Dan Hoij. "Although Eddie Stobart Limited has many years experience of operating Scania vehicles, we nonetheless had to prove ourselves in rigorous competitive-evaluation trials in order to secure preferred fleet choice status. In addition to low whole-life costs, fuel economy and operating efficiency, Scania EGR was a factor strongly in our favour as Eddie Stobart Limited wishes to avoid the additional burden of SCR and AdBlue."

A further two Scania vehicles have also been specified as part of this order. These are fire appliances destined to operate at Carlisle Airport which has recently been acquired by W A Developments International which is Eddie Stobart Limited's parent group.

Scania is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of trucks and buses for heavy transport applications, and of industrial and marine engines. With 30,000 employees and production facilities in Europe and Latin America, Scania is one of the most profitable companies in its sector. Scania products are marketed in about 100 countries worldwide and some 95 percent of Scania's vehicles are sold outside Sweden.

In the UK, Scania is a leading supplier of heavy trucks with a market share of 16.6% in 2006. The company also markets buses, coaches and diesel engines for industrial and marine use, as well as a wide range of associated services.
