Summer BBQing With Dr. Glenn L. Keiper Jr MD

12th August 2021 Print

Barbequing is one of the biggest social events of the summer. As a relaxed way to have fun with friends and family, cooking outdoors can bring neighbors together. Dr. Glenn L. Keiper Jr, MD, a neurosurgeon from Eugene, OR, has a new passion for barbequing, is also skilled in the art of grilling.

How To Host A BBQ

A Barbeque has its flavor. The atmosphere is unique from a dinner party and is often laid-back and relaxing. Dr. Glenn L. Keiper Jr, MD, hosts barbecues for both small and large outdoor parties. Regardless of the people, the essential foods rarely change.

The Right Food

There are a few grilling staples that most barbecues have. Chicken, hamburgers, and steaks can be used every weekend by mixing up the recipes. Dr. Glenn L. Keiper Jr MD can grill spicy fish with a specialized glaze for a diverse cookout.

Chicken

Chicken is one of the most versatile meats available. Almost any part of the chicken can be grilled for a different texture or flavor. Sticky grilled chicken is often served with a basic marinade that can be prepared overnight. The key technique to grilling chicken involves consistency. It is important to turn the chicken frequently to keep it from burning. This is especially true when using any marinade.

Burgers

Burgers are a hearty dinner that’s best eaten in the summertime. Grilling outside makes messy eating easy, and burgers can include more ingredients. Adding jalapeno popper dip or pigs in a blanket can add an unexpected twist to spice up a classic burger. Bacon and shredded mozzarella pair well with Angus ground beef.

Steak

The right kind of steak needs nothing extra. The combination of a juicy cut and proper grill is enough to satisfy any picky eater. To grill a perfect steak, the meat needs direct heat. This can be done using gas or charcoal. To cook a medium-rare steak, Dr. Glenn L. Keiper Jr MD cooks at a temperature of 130 degrees.

Fish

Dry fish fillets can easily be grilled for outdoor parties. Using paper towels and a brush, melted butter can be applied evenly. For seasoning, add olive oil, parsley, garlic, and lemon. Grilling fish is best done over moderately high heat. Using this method will char the fish after approximately ten minutes. Fish can typically be served after twenty minutes.

Potatoes

A full barbeque needs more than just meat. As a quick side, potatoes can be grilled in a variety of styles. An Idaho potato is one of the largest potatoes served at an American barbeque. Using a well-salted pot of boiling water, let the potatoes cook for approximately five minutes. Extra flavor can be added just before grilling by using garlic powder, pepper, olive oil, and salt. These potatoes are typically grilled on medium-high.

Pork Chops

Pork chops are a lean meat that can turn out juicy and tender when cooked properly. Pork chops are easy to make and inexpensive and are a staple at many houses. To create a juicy pork chop, canola oil and seasoning are needed. By sprinkling, seasoning on top of an oiled pork chop can saturate the meat before grilling. Grilling pork chops can take anywhere from five to fifteen minutes, depending on personal preference.

Asparagus

Grilled asparagus with olive oil is packed with flavor and only takes fifteen minutes to make. As a side dish, this is one of the least time-consuming foods. Asparagus does not need to be grilled on foil as long as the grates are clean. There are multiple widths available, but thick asparagus has firm spears that can hold more oil or marinade. Using medium heat, this side dish takes approximately ten minutes.

A Memorable BBQ Has Memorable Marinade

Marinades are a way to create uncommon flavors for a unique BBQ experience. Many marinades are not complicated and can be made using basic ingredients from the store.

Chimichurri

Ingredients to make chimichurri sauce include parsley, cilantro, oregano, garlic, red wine, olive oil, and red chili flakes. This can be drizzled over chicken or buffalo wings for a slightly spicy taste without too much heat. Depending on personal preference, ingredients can be increased or decreased until the taste feels natural

Fresh Steak Sauce

Steak marinade can drastically change a meal. For lean cuts, including filet mignon, a marinade without excessive acid is preferable. Marinades can include spicy mustard, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Garlic and lemon are often used to balance out the fat content.

Delicate Fish Marinade

White meat requires a slightly different kind of marinade. Instead of slathering marinade onto the meat as you would with a steak or chicken, fish tastes better with minimal juices. A delicate fish marinade is usually used for trout, flounder, or snappers. Light marinades consist of garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, and fresh herbs. Regardless of the type of fish, do not marinate for over thirty minutes.

The Perfect BBQ Is An Experiment

Summer events are particularly important in 2021. Barbeques are one way to spend time with others in an outdoor setting. Since the nature of a barbeque is relaxed, many people may come and go while attending this afternoon meal. For those who prefer socializing with a purpose, grilling is the perfect activity.

To create the perfect barbeque down to a science, experimentation is first needed. Trying new side dishes with specifically sauced meat is one way to understand which flavors work best. This may mean holding a taste test or a contest to see which meals rank #1. Involving others in the process is one way to get friends and family invested in a great cookout.
