T-Comm Tracking & Tracing launch new tyre pressure check at CV Show

T-Comm Tracking & Tracing launch new tyre pressure check at CV Show A patented new device which can make commercial vehicles safer, and saves money for the operators, is being launched in the UK at the Commercial Vehicle Show, Birmingham.

T-Comm Tracking & Tracing of The Netherlands, has a patented solution for an efficient tyre pressure check on commercial vehicles. Known as P-eye, the simple looking device is packed with technology and has taken two years to develop.

It is easy to use. It is simply a case of unscrewing the tyre valve cap from the commercial vehicle tyre and replacing it with the P-eye monitoring device. The P-eye measures the preset minimum tyre pressure and passes this on to the signalling LED. If the tyre pressure drops more than 5 per cent below the ideal pressure the LED lamp starts blinking.

The driver knows then that the pressure of this particular tyre is too low and the tyre should be inflated. So when a fleet of vehicles are parked on site, it is not necessary to check every single tyre, but action is only necessary on tyres where the LEDs are blinking.

Cause of Traffic Congestion
Statistically it has been found that approximately a quarter of all commercial vehicle tyres are not sufficiently inflated. This increases wear with about 15 to 20 per cent. Practically all blowouts and resulting accidents are caused by a too low tyre pressure.

All too often traffic congestion is caused by an accident with a truck or one immobilised by a flat tyre. This underlines the importance of how low tyre pressures can have a widespread effect and high costs. A too low tyre pressure causes about 7 per cent more fuel consumption with equivalent CO2 emissions. So, also from an environmental point of view, the maintenance of the correct tyre pressure is of great importance.

Saving

Apart from the saving on the fuel bill, the average saving following less tyre wear has been established as £215.

Investment

The investment per tyre amounts to £20 to fit the device. For an extra £2 an anti theft version is also available. For this modest outlay without installation cost there are the major benefits of a truck driver who hits the road with more confidence while the transport company enjoys fuel saving and longer tyre life. And it helps reduce the misery of delays and accidents caused by a flat tyre.

Obligatory?

In the United States a tyre pressure monitor is obligatory in new cars from the end of this year. According to some Dutch members of parliament a similar regulation should be possible in the Netherlands in 2011. There is pressure on the Dutch traffic secretary to plead for such an obligation as a European directive. The arguments are of course the common interest of less CO2 emissions and reducing an important cause of traffic congestion.

Vehicle Tracking & Tracing
T-Comm Tracking & Tracing B.V. introduced at The European Road Transport Show in Amsterdam late last year their comprehensive vehicle tracking and tracing system, aimed at semi-trailers. A lot of modules can be coupled to their system which all satisfy the design philosophy “Easy Intelligence”.
