22nd April 2008 Print
Cummins Darlington Engine Plant, U.K., has been recognised for outstanding export sales in 2007 with the prestigious Queen’s Award for International Trade for the fourth time since it started trading in 1965. Previously, it won the Queen’s Award for International Trade in 1970, 1971 and 1976. The Queen's Award for Enterprise is Britain’s most coveted commercial award that any U.K. business can win.

Cummins Darlington plant is known for its worldwide export coverage. Engines from the plant are sent to over 40 different countries. In 2007 the largest portion of these were sent to Europe, China, Turkey, and North America. Over the past 3 years export sales have increased by 81% to a cumulative £570M GBP (approximately $1.1B USD). In order to meet high demand in 2007, the Cummins Darlington plant increased the production of engines from 250 engines per day to over 360 engines per day.

The Awards are made each year by The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an Advisory Committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce, and the trade unions. The Awards are given solely on merit and competition is fierce.

Tim Millwood, Darlington Plant Manager said, "This is great news for the Cummins Darlington Engine Plant and our employees. We are honoured to be selected amongst the best companies in the U.K. A Queen’s Award demonstrates that the plant maintains the highest standards and is well placed to remain highly responsive to the needs of the markets and customers that we serve.”
