DSA invites truckers to Truckstop and Truckfest

30th May 2009 Print
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) is inviting both would-be and experienced truckers to come along to Truckfest and Truckstop events to find out how new legislation will affect them from 10 September.

From September, anyone wanting to drive a lorry professionally must have a driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in addition to their vocational driving licence. Driver CPC was successfully introduced for bus and coach drivers last September.

To raise awareness of driver CPC, and its road safety benefits, DSA is working in partnership with Truckfest, the UK's original premier road haulage and trucking show. The Agency will be exhibiting at all of the upcoming Truckfest events and is holding a series of complementary Truckstop roadshows across the country.

Visitors will have the opportunity to talk to DSA staff about getting their driver CPC, training, staying qualified, entitlements to exemptions and road safety.

DSA Deputy Chief Executive, Nick Carter, said: "DSA is pleased to be working with Truckfest in order to promote the driver CPC qualification.

"A trucker with a CPC certificate under their belt will be able to demonstrate that they have the skills and knowledge needed for their day-to-day work in this very important industry.

"Better trained drivers should help avoid costs, both human and financial, of road accidents in the UK."
