New lightweight body increases payload of 3.5T trucks

31st July 2009 Print
Bespoke Bodies A lightweight body that significantly increases the payload of 3.5T trucks has entered service with the Leicestershire dairy, Kirby & West.

Designed and constructed by the Warrington-based coachbuilder Bespoke Bodies, the 3.1m body weighs in at an exceptionally low 380kg. Including the tail lift, driver and a full tank of fuel the design gives the Renault Master 3.5T platform a payload of 1200kg - a figure far in excess of conventional 3.5T chassis. The innovative construction of the body also allows the load space to be power washed without the risk of corrosion.

Comments the managing director of Kirby and West, Graham Smith, “In commissioning the truck, we wanted a design solution that would allow our non-HGV licensed drivers to carry higher payloads over longer distances. The vehicle provided by Bespoke Bodies gives up that capability – a factor that has helped us to lower our operating costs. It’s a design that works exceptionally well and one we would recommend to any operator looking to extend the range of their 3.5 ton fleet.”
