Form-man Camier under threat from Guintoli
Leon Camier is the form man in the early season chase for the ViSK British Superbike Championship in association with Pirelli having won three of the four races so far but the Airwaves Yamaha rider can take nothing for granted as he goes into Donington Park’s double race third round on Holiday Monday 25 May.The Leicestershire based Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli will be pushing him hard, determined to add to his opening race victory aboard the Worx Suzuki as he rides a circuit that he knows well from his time in MotoGP action.
Guintoli goes into the races determined to peg back the 11 points by which he trails Camier, but the action will be far more than a private scrap for supremacy with locally based Aussie Glen Richards determined to taste the winner’s champagne for the first time this term.
In the past two years, he was won the British Superstock and Supersport titles and now riding for HM Plant Honda, Richards, currently third in the rankings is eager to add Superbikes to his collection.
It promises to be a fascinating battle, fought out over the full Grand Prix circuit with a packed grid of high powered Superbikes including Derby’s Jon Kirkham and Nottingham’s former four times runner-up in the series Chris Walker.
Add to that heady mix Honda’s second Aussie ace, Josh Brookes, who is aiming for a career first Superbike victory on a circuit where he has a good pedigree: “Last year I won the World Supersport race there and it has always been a good circuit for me in the past so I am looking forward to getting back out there.”
Around the two Superbike races there are rounds counting to the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport; Relentless British 125GP; Metzeler National SUperstock 1000 and 600; KTM RC8 SuperCup and British 250cc championships.
