moneysupermarket.com: T-Mobile's first quarter financial results

11th May 2007 Print
Commenting on T-Mobile's first quarter financial results, Rob Barnes, head of mobiles at moneysupermarket.com, said: "The results indicate T-Mobile's current focus on higher spending customers.

"While it lost 277,000 pre-pay customers from the previous quarter, it did pick up 106,000 contract customers, many of whom may have switched from pre-pay. The change in emphasis saw quarterly net revenue barely change, with it falling by only one per cent to £781 million.

“T-Mobile has added 500,000 contract customers over the past year, with its Flext tariff, introduced in March 2006, now having 1.6 million users. Web ‘n’ Walk has also appealed to bigger users.

“In light of its results, T-Mobile might now actually put more emphasis on re-attracting pre-pay customers.

"Mobile users with relatively low monthly mobile bills should consider offers from some of the other networks. The market is very competitive with great value deals for lower spending mobile users, such as 3 Mobile’s £15 per month, 500-minute cross network anytime deal and Virgin’s recently launched six-month contract deal. The latter involves buying a sim card, but it is a great move for anyone with a handset they are happy with who don’t want to be tied in for too long.”
