Britannia branches out for the future

4th July 2007 Print
Britannia Building Society will plant a tree for every child whose parents open a savings account for them between Monday 2 July and 2 September 2007.

The scheme will help parents give their children the best start in life by both saving for their future and helping the environment.

The trees are Britannia's way of encouraging children to become savers and to learn to be responsible and look after the planet at the same time. Each child will receive a certificate for the tree that has been planted for them.

Neville Richardson, Britannia Group Chief Executive, explained: "We hope the trees will help youngsters understand how important it is to protect the environment whilst planning for their financial future. Britannia has some fantastic savings products for children, with the non-stakeholder cash Child Trust Fund having one of the best interest rates on the market. It is essential that children learn good financial habits and to be socially responsible towards the planet from an early age."

The trees will be planted in conjunction with the Woodland Trust in their Lincolnshire Limewoods to make up the Britannia Grove.

Neville added, "Approximately 54,000 babies are born every month in the UK that could benefit from Britannia's range of accounts. This means a possibility of planting over 100,000 trees."
