Abbey announces Premiership Super Saver

18th August 2008 Print
Abbey Savings has announced that the Premiership's ‘Super Saver' in the 2007-8 season was Manchester City's Joe Hart. Research conducted by Abbey has found that the former Shrewsbury trainee was the best value for money goalkeeper in the league, costing his club a meagre £3,644 per save made from his 6ft 3in frame.

Hart's status as the Premiership's ‘Super Saver' is underpinned by his modest (by Premiership standards) weekly wage of £7,500. By comparison, the likes of Petr Cech and Edwin van der Sar were paid over £30,000 per save and represent the least value per stop.

If Abbey Savings were to be granted special dispensation by the FA to field one of their savings accounts in the premier league, its 9.1% Super Saver Account would probably take to the field looking not too dissimilar to Manchester City's young goalkeeper Joe Hart. The Super Saver account, much like Hart, is a new kid on the block and represents a great return on investment for its owner. And, like the Abbey Super Saver, he's generated a lot of interest, being linked with big money moves to Arsenal, Everton and Spurs.

Reza Attar-Zadeh, Director of Savings and Investments at Abbey, said: "Manchester City made a great investment when they signed Joe Hart from Shrewsbury. Abbey customers can do the same by taking out our Super Saver account with its market leading interest rate of 9.1%. With the new season about to begin, we'll be monitoring this season's Super Savers with great interest".

Abbey‘s Super Saver account is a limited edition 12-month fixed-rate account offering 9.1 per cent if customers put an equal amount or more into any Abbey investment product. Minimum deposit is £1, and maximum investment is £2m.
