Leeds Building Society donates over £50,000 to Leeds United

11th May 2009 Print
Leeds Building Society was delighted to present Leeds United with a cheque for £54,215 at their home match with Northampton Town on Saturday 2 May.

Each year, Leeds Building Society makes a donation to the club equivalent to 1% of the total balances held in the Leeds United Saver account, and it doesn't cost fans a thing. Since the launch of the account in 1997, over £500,000 has been donated to Leeds United Football Club.

Nigel Wray, Head of Marketing at Leeds Building Society (pictured far right) said, "The Leeds United Saver is the savings account that offers Leeds United fans great rates and access to their money while supporting their club. The more that fans save, the more Leeds United receives and with tiered interest rates, the higher the interest customers will receive on their savings.

"We are passionate about supporting grassroots sports in the areas within which we operate and this £54,215 donation will go towards helping youth development at the club."

Also attending the match from Leeds Building Society was Ed Wainwright, Senior Marketing Officer (pictured second from right). Ed said, "I was delighted to attend the match and present the 2008 affinity payment to Leeds United player Andy Hughes.

"It was great to see Elland Road packed with a 34,000 attendance and the performance of the team certainly matched the surroundings. We wish the team the best of luck in the second leg of their playoff against Millwall, and let's hope we are back this time next year with the team on the verge of returning to the Premiership!"

Leeds United player Andy Hughes (pictured centre) said, "We were delighted to welcome representatives from Leeds Building Society to Elland Road for the Leeds United saver cheque presentation. It's a great account and I would thoroughly recommend it to all fans."
