WAGs can expect a cracking Christmas!
Men are the more generous sex when it comes to Christmas spending on their partners, according to an online survey by fool.co.uk.The survey of almost two thousand Motley Fool readers reveals that women can expect to receive a bumper treat from their men this Christmas, as they intend to lavish around £161 on presents for their wives and girlfriends.
While this is slightly less than last year, where men spent around £164, the good news is that one in four women can look forward to a Christmas present worth over £200, and one in 15 lucky women can expect to unwrap a whopper on Christmas morning - her Yuletide treat is worth over £500!
But men need to take note! Women plan to keep their handbags firmly shut again. An overwhelming 57% of women said they don’t intend to spend more than £100 on their husbands and boyfriends this year. Moreover, only one in seven women plan to spend more than £200 on their partner, and just one in 50 men can expect a present worth more than £500!
The survey also revealed that the length of time that a couple has been together can have a bearing on the value of the gifts exchanged. Being together for one to two years seems to be the most expensive time for couples where the average price of Christmas presents is £146. Thankfully, it tails away quickly after that!
David Kuo, Head of Personal Finance at www.fool.co.uk says: “Christmas can be an expensive time of year, but don’t let love cloud your financial judgment. Whatever you do, don’t let Christmas be the season when you make your bank manager rich at your expense.
“You need to stick rigidly to your budget and remember, if you can’t afford it then don’t buy it - there are always cheaper alternatives if you just shop around.”
