Gardens flourish as the credit crunch hits

Despite money being tight we still are in the mood to spend on our homes and gardens, according to results from the latest Legal & General MoneyMood Survey.

In fact 42 per cent of people questioned spent between £1 and £1,000 on plants for the garden, garden furniture, garden tools or home improvements during the month of June.

This can be compared to 32 per cent of those surveyed who were in the mood to spend between £1 and £1,000 on a special event or large purchase that was outside of their normal monthly expenditure.

Legal & General's Director of Wealth Customer Marketing, Jonathan Latham, says ‘ It's good to know that despite everything being doom and gloom in the news at the moment, the UK's love of gardens and gardening, which has been the tradition for many years, is still a priority. With many of us staying at home this summer, maybe this is the reason our houses and gardens need to be in tiptop condition for an awe inspiring view!'

Jonathan continues "However, in the current market everyone should still be in the mood to save something towards their long-term goals as well as their short-term ones, and still try to make regular payments into their pensions and savings plans."
