6th March 2009 Print
Couples who have their wedding list with John Lewis can now ask friends and family for a donation to charity as well as traditional household gifts such as a toaster, or dinner service thanks to a new partnership between John Lewis and the Charities Aid Foundation.

When brides and grooms to-be compile their wedding list at John Lewis either online, or, by phone, or in-store they can now open a CAF Charity Account at the same time. CAF will claim back the Gift Aid from gifts given by UK taxpayers meaning for every pound given an extra 23 pence will be added to the couples' account.

On opening an account the couple will receive a ‘CharityCard' and charity chequebook. Using these donations can be made online, over the telephone or in person to any charity they wish to support.

Wedding guests will be able to buy their charity gifts in-store, via the John Lewis call centre 08456 049 049 or online at johnlewisgiftlist.com. Guests can also open their own CAF Charity Account with a £25 bonus from CAF added.

Sheila Hooper, Executive Director of Marketing for the Charities Aid Foundation said; "We are delighted to be working with the UK's most popular wedding gift list service to help people who want to use their wedding celebration as a way of giving something back to the people, places and things they care about. More people are marrying later in life and for the second time so we think this service will grow in popularity."

Kerry McCulloch, Head of John Lewis Gift List said; "Recently we've seen a rise in couples setting up a 'charity list' for their special day, as well as a setting up a traditional gift list. In response to this trend, we're pleased to have been able to work with CAF to now offer the option for couples to ask their guests to make a contribution to the Charity which matters to them most."

Gift Lists can also be set up for other major lifetime events, such as civil partnerships, birthdays, christenings, or retirement and those participating in these celebrations will also be able to set up a CAF Charity Account. John Lewis is the most popular gifting service in the country. John Lewis will not make a profit on any of the money donated to charity.
