Groundbreaking Gym Launches In Enfield

The Core Exercise Clinic is being launched by leading premium health club brand David Lloyd Leisure and health and care company BUPA. The first stand-alone clinic opens this week in Enfield and is aimed at people who need specialist health and fitness advice, either because they are recovering from injury or chronic illness, because they are on a rehabilitation programme following surgery, are overweight or are more mature and keen to stay active in later life.
Unlike other gyms, the joint venture clinic will be run by a team of 'Core Experts' with formal training in a range of health disciplines including nursing, physiotherapy, sports science, rehabilitation, nutrition and fitness for more mature people. Members meet regularly with the Core Experts, who work with them to develop a personalised exercise plan based on their medical history and lifestyle.
As well as the usual running machines, exercise bikes and weights equipment the clinic contains a range of cutting edge machines called Power Plates. These use vibration to help improve muscle strength, stimulate better circulation and improve bone density. The clinic also offers all members a thorough BUPA Health Check which includes blood pressure, cholesterol, body composition testing and postural analysis.
In addition to the extensive advice and support from qualified professionals, members of the clinic will have access to BUPA's 24 hour Health Information Line, offering medical advice at the touch of a button.
Enfield Core Exercise Clinic's medical director, BUPA's Dr Peter Mace said: "Many people in the UK are still not taking enough exercise despite the obvious health benefits. This could be because they have a medical condition and are unsure about whether they should be physically active. But the truth is that for most medical conditions exercise can help as part of the rehabilitation process. The Core Exercise Clinic provides a non-judgemental, comfortable environment where they can access the mix of fitness and medical expertise they need to get healthy and stay healthy."
The clinic has been designed to help members feel good about exercise. There is a floor-to-ceiling hexagonal fish tank in the centre of the room, the lighting changes with the natural light outside so it is more flattering and there are no mirrors to make members feel self-conscious.
Core Exercise Clinic Manager, Steve Cooper said: "The Core Exercise Clinic brings together BUPA's medical expertise with David Lloyd's knowledge of exercise and fitness to offer members high quality personalised guidance to improve their health and quality of life. We hope to give members that feel-good boost they need whatever their level of fitness. We are all guilty of creating obstacles for ourselves to keeping fit. Too busy, too unfit or too old are the familiar excuses we give. Now there are officially no excuses."
