Channel swimmer launches swimming academy Having successfully completed the 26 mile Cross Channel Swim in 2007, raising £30,000 for Prostate Cancer Research, Cambridge resident and open water swim coach, Edward Williams, has set up and launched the Cambridge Swimming Academy.

Offering expert swimming tuition to people of all ages and abilities – from complete non-swimmers through to National Champions and long distance swimmers – the Cambridge Swimming Academy prides itself on its passion for swimming and the delivery of a swim scheme built on a solid reputation. Following the Amateur Swimming Association’s (ASA) nationally recognised standards and guidelines, the Cambridge Swimming Academy has been created to provide a unique level of individual attention and guarantees fast progression.

Lessons are held in Cambridge-based pools and are delivered by highly trained and qualified teaching staff that use the very best techniques and the very best learn to swim programmes. To ensure fast and constant development, as well as water confidence for all pupils, children’s classes are deliberately smaller than the recommended teacher / pupil ratio set out by the ASA. The maximum number of children in each class is three to maximise their progression. Adult lessons are conducted on a one to one basis, which ensures all students receive individual and unique tuition.

Edward Williams, a fully qualified ASA instructor, and open water swim coach for the Cambridge Triathlon Club and Channel Swimming Association, became one of the youngest swimmers to complete the gruelling 26 mile Cross Channel Swim in 2006.

Coupled together, this means Edward isn’t just a teacher with a few qualifications, but a teacher with a world of experience in the field as well. “I’ve been swimming since a very young age and worked my way up the ladder from county to national standards”, explains Edward.

“To me swimming isn’t just a form of exercise, it’s a lifestyle. To be really good at what you do, you need to love every moment, and that’s exactly why I set up the Cambridge Swimming Academy. There is nothing more satisfying that passing on my knowledge and wisdom to others and the swim programmes I devise for my students are guaranteed to meet individual needs and deliver results.”
